It was an exciting and dynamic morning! Thanks to all the parents who attended!

Creativity Abounds in the PRINTS High-School Classroom Research

This has been an exceptionally busy week for us in the EK/HS program as we are all working hard on our Historical Halloween Projects. We will be presenting our work on Thursday morning - a little taste of all of our hard work before we have parent-student-teacher conferences on Friday. Below is a selection of our "work-in-progress"!

Research - the beginning of any project
Mapping out the artistry of a presentation board
The pyramids take shape!
Answering questions and defending our choices
More research using books and computers
Note-taking and synthesizing details
Sometimes having a little fun lightens the pressure!
A lot to consider when English is not your first language...
A board taking shape
We improvise so as not to get too messy
Using clay to make models
The Egyptians' artistry was extraordinary - a great inspiration

Improvising again...
Using everything we have available to make an impact

Busy mask-making
Measuring and cutting materials for costumes
Another board taking shape
Problem-solving is key - we have to work hard to make the impact with simple materials
The work is intense and takes great focus
We will be finished soon!

A Day in the Life: Emeryville Children's House

I don't like to have my picture taken, but I was okay with letting my teacher take a picture of my work. The movable alphabet is one of my favorite things to work with in the classroom and I practice almost every day. Every time I make a new word, I go to my teacher and ask her to come look at it. When my rug cannot hold any more words, I ask her to come look one more time, and then I clean up.

High School Field Trip to Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

Last week, the PRINTS high school students traveled to San Jose to visit the wonderful Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. We are studying Egypt as the first topic in our exploration of the African continent this year, and we are so fortunate to have a world-class museum filled with Egyptian antiquities right here in the Bay Area.
At the elaborate entrance to the Rosicrucian Museum http://www.egyptianmuseum.org/
We spent well over two hours exploring all of the amazing galleries including a replica of an exact tomb from Egypt complete with sarcophagus, wall paintings and canopic jars. There were mummies, models and real artifacts including jewelry, amulets, pots, stele and - of course - many, many references and artworks regarding their pharoahs, dynasties and religion.

The museum also boasts extraordinary gardens laid out in an authentic ancient Egyptian manner. This museum is well-worth the trip to San Jose for a visit!
Visiting the beautiful labyrinth behind the museum. It is based on the labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral
A beautiful artifact from inside the museum depicting Ramses II's son.
A replica of an Egyptian temple in the gardens of the museum.
Fountain in front of one of the research buildings in the complex.
Overall, the trip added an enormous amount to our learning and understanding of Ancient Egypt.
