A Day in the Life: Butter-Making in the Emeryville Children's House

You will need: a large canning jar (a pint jar works best), a pinch of salt, heavy cream, and some dried beans. The beans help agitate and churn the cream in the jar. Be careful not to fill the jar more than halfway with cream.

Seal it tightly and shake... and shake... and shake some more...

The view inside the jar as the butter starts to form. Keep shaking!

Now we have butter to spread on the banana bread that we baked yesterday! Yummy!
