Let's do the Cha-Cha

Elementary Takes on the Cha-Cha

During the summer, the Elementary students have the opportunity to explore several different dance genres as both an appreciate for the art and as a means of exercise. Today, we learned the basic steps to the Cha-Cha dance. Cha-Cha is one of the rhythm dances under the American Ballroom Dance Competition categories. It is also known as one of the Latin dances in Ballroom Dancing.

Before we start, it is important to warm up our body. Then we worked out our neck, chest, abs, arms, and hips. After those muscles were feeling warm, we were ready to dance!

First, we learned the basic step.
"1 - 2 - 3, cha-cha-cha ~ 2 - 3, cha-cha-cha..."

Next, we added in the hips. "Sway left ~ sway right." We started out slowly, dancing to the music at half time. When we got more comfortable with the steps, we let our body move to the music.

Lastly, we got together in pairs and danced with a partner.
Leaders/Gentlemen: "May I have this dance?"
Followers/Ladies: "Yes, I'd love to."
Queue music ~

After learning the basic steps of the Cha-Cha, we continued to practice together. You never know, one day these steps may come in handy. Let's do the Cha-Cha!
